Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Connecticut Tigers dropped their second straight game on Thursday night, falling 4-3 against the Staten Island Yankees in 11 innings at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Tigers took an early 1-0 on Jeff Holm's first career homer, a solo shot to right in the second inning. They would add on two runs in the third inning on RBI base hits from Eugenio Suarez and Dean Green to take a 3-0 lead.

However, the potent Yankees lineup would not be held silent on this night. Tigers' starter Matt Crouse had his scoreless innings streak snapped at 17 in the sixth inning. With runners at first and second and two outs, Casey Stevenson came through with a double, scoring both runners and cutting the Tigers lead to one.

Still with a 3-2 lead, Daniel Bennett came on in the ninth to try and pick up his fourth save of the year, but instead had his first blown save of the season. After a leadoff double from Stevenson, he advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ali Castillo and came in to tie the game at three on a sacrifice fly by Wes Wilson.

The Tigers went down in order in the top of the tenth and Drew Gagnier came in to pitch the bottom of the tenth frame. Cito Culver led off with a double to left field and moved up to third on a base hit by Angelo Gumbs, while Zach Wilson was intentionally walked to load the bases. Reymond Nunez came through with the game-winner, lining a Gagnier pitch into right, sending the crowd into a frenzy and clinching the Yankees third straight victory.

Gagnier suffered his first loss of the year, while Phillip Wetherell, who pitched the perfect tenth, picked up his third win of the season.

The Tigers will try to salvage a victory in the series finale tomorrow night with the Yankees. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
