Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Nestor Castillo connected for a two-out, go-ahead triple in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Jamestown Jammers rallied twice to stun the Auburn Doubledays, 7-6, at Diethrick Park Thursday night.
Castillo, who had a walk-off single Sunday against Williamsport, delivered another game-winning hit when he drilled one off the left ï¬Âeld wall to score Josh Adams from ï¬Ârst to break a 6-6 tie.
Austin Barnes paced the Jamestown offense with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI.
Rony Peralta had two hits including a solo homer, and Terrence Dayleg connected for his team- leading third homer of the year.
The Jammers struck ï¬Ârst with Peralta's solo blast to left center in the ï¬Ârst; however, Auburn would answer in the top of the second with a round tripper by Matt Skole to tie the game up.
The score would stay that way until the top of the fourth when the Doubledays capitalized on a Jamestown miscue. With runners at the corners and two outs, Caleb Ramsey reached on a ï¬Âelding error to allow a run to score. Roberto Perez and Wilfri Pena had back-to- back RBI singles to extend the lead to three.
Dayleg would wallop his solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to chip away at the lead, and Auburn would respond in the sixth inning with another tally on a Pena double.
The Jammers battled back in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Brent Keys had a one-out single to extend his hitting streak to 8 games, and Dayleg was beaned move the Jamestown center ï¬Âelder up 90 feet. Barnes collected his third hit of the night to score Keys and put runners at second and third. Josh Adams, who was making his professional debut, roped his ï¬Ârst professional hit to the gap in left center to allow Jamestown to draw even.
Curtis Petersen would come on in relief for Jamestown in the seventh and strike out ï¬Âve of the ï¬Ârst six batters he faced. However, Pena made Jamestown pay again with a solo homer to put Auburn back in front by one run in the eighth.
The Jammers would take advantage of Auburn's ï¬Ârst error of the series when Hendry Jimenez airmailed a throw to ï¬Ârst to allow Barnes to reach for the fourth time in the bottom of the inning. Rand Smith worked a walk before Josh Adams advanced Barnes to third with a ï¬Âelder's choice. Ryan Goetz hit a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây to allow Barnes to tag and tie the game to set the stage for Castillo's heroics. Left ï¬Âelder Justin Miller almost made a spectacular catch at the wall on the ï¬ây ball, but he collided with the fence and dropped the ball to allow the winning run to score.
Blake Brewer pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his ï¬Ârst save of the season and give Petersen his second win.
Greg Holt took the loss for the Doubledays to fall to 0-1. Pena led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while Roberto Perez, Angelberth Montilla and Skole each had a pair of hits.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game set Friday at Diethrick Park before heading to Auburn for three more with ï¬Ârst pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
