Game #27 / Road Game #13 LHP Zack Dodson (0-1, 5.09) vs. RHP Clemente Mendoza (1-3, 7.88)

-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD FOR SIX: The State College Spikes start their longest road trip of the season to this point tonight as they take on the Connecticut Tigers at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT. The Spikes will travel 898 total miles on the trip, with two more games in Connecticut and three against the Auburn Doubledays coming up over the next five days. The Spikes are 6-7 all-time against the Tigers, who were located in Oneonta, NY prior to this season.

-LAST GAME: Zack Von Rosenberg earned his first professional victory with five innings of one-run ball, and was bolstered by a proficient Spikes offense in an 11-1 win over the Connecticut Tigers last night at Dodd Stadium. Matt Curry and Kelson Brown led the way offensively for the Spikes, with Curry going 3-for-3 and knocking in two runs. Brown drove in three runs, with two coming in a four-run State College third. New Spike Colton Cain struck out two batters in a perfect sixth inning.

-DODSON THE SPIKES' MAN AT DODD: Lefty Zack Dodson gets the ball for State College tonight. Dodson received his first professional decision on Sunday in Brooklyn, taking the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks over three innings. Tonight will mark the sixth start of the year for the Natalia, TX native, and third on the road. Dodson's career high in single-game strikeouts (five) was set on July 4th vs. Hudson Valley.

-TIGERS GO WITH SMITH ON THE MOUND: Right-hander Clemente Mendoza gets the mound assignment for Connecticut this evening. In five starts with the Tigers so far in 2010, Mendoza has yielded 24 runs, 21 earned, in 24 innings of work, striking out 16 and walking 11. Last time out, Mendoza allowed five runs over five innings in a loss to Batavia.

-DECKER EARNS NYPL HONORS: Spikes right-hander Kevin Decker was named the NYPL Pitcher of the Week for July 5-11. Decker logged 10.1 scoreless innings on the week.
