
Tigers Win 5-0; Even Series with State College

NORWICH-RHP Clemente Mendoza (2-3) pitched eight scoreless innings and 1B James Robbins (2-4) drove in three runs to help the Connecticut Tigers (14-13) to a 5-0 win over the State College Spikes (14-13) before 1,108 fans at Dodd Stadium on Thursday night.
Connecticut scored three runs in the third inning against State College LHP Zack Dodson (0-2). 2B Alexander Nunez (1-4) doubled and scored on a single by 3B Matt Perry (3-4). DH Chris Sedon (2-4) walked and Perry moved to second base. A past ball allowed both runners to advance one base into scoring position.
Robbins hit a two-run single to score both men and make it 3-0.
In the fifth inning, Perry led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Sedon. C Julio Rodriguez (0-3) grounded into a double play. With Perry moving to third base, Robbins hit a double to score Perry and make it 4-0.
The Tigers added a run in the eighth inning. SS Ryan Soares (1-4) led off the inning with a single and proceeded to steal second and third base. RF Londell Taylor (1-4) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score both Soares and make it 5-0.
The Tigers and Spikes finish their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Quinton Miller (0-0, 5.40) gets the start for State College against RHP Patrick Cooper (1-1, 4.09) for Connecticut. It's a Friday Fireworks Show presented by XtraMart and Atlas PyroVision after the game.
