-SPIKES CONTINUE HOMESTAND AGAINST JAMMERS: The State College Spikes' six-game homestand rolls on tonight as they face the Jamestown Jammers to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the second game of a three-game series. State College swept a two-game series from Jamestown at Diethrick Park earlier this month. The season series is now tied, 4-4, and Jamestown leads the all-time series between the two teams, 33-25.
-LAST GAME: Trent Stevenson settled down after allowing two early runs, and Kirk Singer collected a pair of hits, but the State College Spikes' late comeback came up just short in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Jamestown Jammers on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Stevenson yielded a pair of runs to Jamestown in the first inning when a trio of hits culminated in Josh Adams's single to bring in both markers. The right-hander, who has allowed eight of the 16 runs scored against him with the Spikes in 2011 in the initial frame, yielded four hits and hit two batters afterwards without giving up another run.
-BENEDICT BRINGING ORDER TO MOUND: Right-hander Matt Benedict gets the ball to start for State College tonight. Benedict is coming off of a stellar outing against Hudson Valley last time out. The Pirates' 2011 30th-round pick allowed one unearned run on four hits over five innings, striking out a career-high six batters in the process. Benedict holds a 14:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in five home starts this season.
-JAMMERS START OLIVER TONIGHT: Jamestown right-hander Dejai Oliver takes the mound to begin the game tonight for the Jammers. Oliver is making his seventh appearance and sixth start since his promotion from the Gulf Coast League to Jamestown. The Marlins' 8th-round draft pick this year, Oliver earned the win over State College on August 6, yielding a run on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out five over five innings.
