Niles, Ohio - The Scrappers led 5-1 early but couldn't hold on and lost to the Auburn Doubledays, 6-5, in 10 innings.

Auburn's Hendry Jimenez singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth inning off reliever Will Krasne, his fourth run batted in of the game. That ended a five-run comeback by the Doubledays, who moved to four games ahead of the Scrappers in the Pinckney Division.

Mahoning Valley fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning after Russell Moldenhauer led off the inning with a solo home run. The Scrappers scored the next five runs off Auburn starter Wirkin Estevez.

Todd Hankins hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to make it 2-1. It was the Scrappers first home run in nearly three weeks. Alex Lavisky followed with a solo home run on the second pitch of his at-bat to make it 3-1.

The Scrappers scored two runs in the third on a wild pitch and a single by Lavisky. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a home run.

Auburn scored three in the top of the sixth on a three-run home run by Jimenez and tied the game on an Aaron Siliga error in the seventh.

The game remained tied until the tenth inning, when Auburn scored the eventual winning run. Jimenez finished with two hits and was one of four Doubledays batters with a multi-hit game.

Krasne picked up the loss to fall to 2-4. Auburn reliever Colin Bates picked up the win to improve to 4-1. Aaron Barrett earned his eighth save of the season.

The Scrappers remain 1.5 games behind the Williamsport Crosscutters in the Wild Card standings after Williamsport lost to Batavia.

The Scrappers and Doubledays conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm.
