Cutters Rally Comes up One Short

The Williamsport Crosscutters scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning against Batavia Wednesday night, but were defeated by a final score of 8-7 at Dwyer Stadium.

The Muckdogs tallied three runs on two hits and a walk to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Romulo Ruiz and David Medina knocked RBI doubles in the frame. The home team picked up three more runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the second to make it 6-0, as Ruiz ripped a two-run homer to highlight the attack.

Maikel Franco put the Cutters on the board in the top of the third, as his RBI double off the wall in left scored Aaron Altherr to trim Batavia's lead to 6-1. The Muckdogs immediately answered with two more in the third, using four hits to make it an 8-1 game.

Williamsport scratched out another run in the top of the sixth, as Bob Stumpo singled and scored on a force out at second off the bat of Harold Martinez.

The Cutters staged a wild rally in the top of the ninth, as they picked up five runs on four hits, two walks, and a Batavia error to make it 8-7. The Muckdogs finally ended the threat by retiring Pete Lavin on a lineout to shortstop to end the game.
