-LAST GAME: Alex Fuselier reached base in all four of his trips to the plate Thursday night, but two big innings felled the State College Spikes in a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Hudson Valley Renegades at Dutchess Stadium. Fuselier, the Pirates' 21st-round draft pick in 2011, collected two hits, including an RBI double in the third inning, and two walks on the night. The right fielder also added a stolen base on the evening. In the ninth inning, State College made a last-ditch rally thanks to a hit, a walk and an error to load the bases, but could not bring home any more runs. The loss ended a streak of five straight road wins for the Spikes, who had started the season 4-19 on the road.
-BENEDICT LOOKS TO BRING ORDER TO MOUND: Right-hander Matt Benedict gets the ball for State College tonight in his team-leading 12th start of the season. Last time out, Benedict allowed just three hits, a walk and a hit batsman in five scoreless innings against Connecticut. The Pirates' 2011 30th-round draft pick also struck out a career-high five batters in the effort. Benedict's longest outing of the year is six innings against Tri-City on July 27.
-BELLATTI MAKES BELATED START FOR 'GADES: Hudson Valley right-hander Andrew Bellatti gets the ball for the Renegades tonight, one night after he was previously scheduled to face the Spikes. Bellatti's 2.22 ERA puts him third in the New York-Penn League in that category, although he started the season losing his first four decisions. Each of the last four starts for the Rays' 2009 12th-round draft pick have gone five innings or more.
