Stars Tripped up by Admirals on the Road in 5-2 Loss
December 6, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - In what was a tightly contested game through the first 40 minutes of play, the Milwaukee Admirals added a pair of third period goals to pull away from the Texas Stars for a 5-2 win on Sunday evening in front of 5,764 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Marek Mazanec stopped 29 of 31 shots in net to lead the Admirals (15-6-1-0) to the win. Curtis McKenzie and Matej Stransky each scored for the Stars (12-9-1-1). Devin Shore recorded an assist to extend his team-high point streak for Texas to nine games, and it was the 900th game in the coaching career of Stars head coach Derek Laxdal.
The Stars return home on Tuesday to host the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 p.m. CST.
Milwaukee's Frederick Gaudreau at 6:53 on the power play and Jimmy Oligny at 9:50 each scored in the third to turn a 3-2 deficit for the Stars into the 5-2 final. Both players snapped goals from the top of the slot over the shoulder of Jack Campbell, who suffered the loss with 18 saves.
The Admirals opened up the game's scoring late in the first when rookie forward Matt White scored his first career AHL goal at 17:09. McKenzie responded for the Stars less than two minutes later by deflecting a centering pass from Stephen Johns for his third goal of the season to knot the score.
The offense picked up in period two with the Admirals jumping in front again on White's second of the game from the bottom of the right circle at 8:20. Texas responded again on a two-man advantage as Stransky buried a loose puck in front of the net off a faceoff in the offensive zone. Shore picked up the assist on the goal at the halfway point of the period.
Less than two minutes after the Stars tied the game, Joe Pendenza pushed the Admirals in front for good with a shorthanded goal from the left circle to make it a 3-2 score and cap off a sequence where three goals were scored in a 3:22 span midway through the second period.
Thanks to Stransky's power play goal, the Stars have scored on the man-advantage in nine of their past 10 games. Texas finished 1-for-7 on the power play while Milwaukee went 1-for-4.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
