Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign Close Weekend Set against Checkers Today

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), wrap up a two-game weekend series against the Charlotte Checkers today at 2:00 p.m. PT at Bojangles' Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Today is the second of four meetings between the two teams this season.

The Last Time We Met:

The Reign and Checkers collided for the first time this season last night at Bojangles' Coliseum with the Reign prevailing 3-1. Forwards Paul Bissonnette, Scott Sabourin and Michael Mersch provided the goals and goaltender Peter Budaj made 18 saves. Defenseman Kevin Gravel pitched in two assists. Box Score

Mersch Continues to Shine:

With a goal last night, forward Michael Mersch extended his road goal scoring streak to four games with six markers and enters tonight's matchup tied for fourth in the American Hockey League with 12 goals.

Budaj Backstops the Reign:

Goaltender Peter Budaj leads the AHL with a 1.59 goals-against average, sits third with 11 wins, fourth with a .935 save percentage and fifth 903:52 minutes played.

Mersch and Kempe Lead the Way:

Forwards Michael Mersch (five goals) and Adrian Kempe (three goals) have eight of the Reign's 15 goals over the last five games.
