Syracuse Crunch News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch were blanked by Yann Danis and the Albany Devils, 4-0, tonight at the Times Union Center.
The Crunch earned two out of a possible six points during their three-in-three this weekend. The loss tonight moves the team to 10-8-2-1 on the season, while the Devils stand at 15-4-3-0. Albany also has a 2-0 lead in the six-game season series.
Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox stopped 14 of 17 shots before being relieved by Kristers Gudlevskis to start the third period. Gudlevskis went on to turn aside 6 of 7. Devils goaltender Danis recorded his fourth shutout this season, closing the door on all 23 shots. Syracuse was unable to convert on six power-play opportunities, and ended a four-game power-play goal streak, while Albany went 2-for-4 on the man-advantage.
The Devils were first to light the lamp with a power-play tally at the 8:50 mark of the first period. Brandon Burlon passed ahead to Reid Boucher, who skated the puck into the zone and went bar-down from the right wing side.
Albany struck twice in the middle frame. Just 57 seconds in, Dan Kelly fired from the left point for his first of the season. Assists went to Marc-Andre Gragnani and Mike Sislo. With 2:06 remaining in the period, Joseph Blandisi flipped a backhand shot over Wilcox while on the man-advantage to build a three-goal lead for the Devils. Sislo earned his second point of the game with the helper.
Just as the Devils killed a roughing penalty early in the third period, the team added one more to their total. Sislo passed over to Max Novak at the top of the right circle. Novak skated around a Crunch defender in the slot and netted a backhander at the 3:21 mark.
The Crunch were unable to solve Danis and fell to the Devils, 4-0.
Syracuse is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 9 when they travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to face the Penguins at 7:05 p.m.
