Stars Top Buccaneers in Season Opener, 3-2

Lincoln, Neb. - Propelled by two goals from forward Will D'Orsi, the Stars topped the Buccaneers 3-2 on Friday at the Ice Box.

The Stars struck first in their home opener - taking a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the opening period.

Stars forward Will D'Orsi got his first regular season goal in a Stars uniform at the 2:14 mark of the first period accepting a tape-to-tape pass through the slot from forward Henry Bowlby.

The second period was back and forth with both teams finding twine once in the period.

Des Moines forward Wyatt Bongiovanni received a pass from behind the net at the 4:23 mark from forward Justin Howell on the power play to put the Buccaneers on the board and tie the contest at 1-1.

Lincoln answered back just over three minutes later as a slap shot from defenseman Ryan Jones was redirected into the back of the net by forward Will D'Orsi giving him his second goal of the night and giving Lincoln the 2-1 lead after two periods of play.

In third period both teams would find the back of the net once giving Lincoln the 3-2 win in regulation.

Des Moines forward Ty Pelton-Byce at the 3:19 mark of the third with a shot that bounced off of Stars goaltender Patrik Virtanen and into the net.

Lincoln forward Ludvig Hoff then answered with the eventual game winner at the 16:12 mark of the third period, receiving a pass from forward Grant Jozefek. Lincoln would hold on and get the 3-2 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday night at the Ice Box.

Lincoln will return to action on the road on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
