
Stars Surge Past Skyforce 124-115

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 124-115 tonight at the Maverik Center, coming off a three-game road trip.
Five players finished in double figures for the Stars. Center Tyler Cook led the team with 26 points on 13-of-17 (.764) from the field and added seven rebounds, and four assists. Christian Vital came off the bench to record 23 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, in just 29-minutes of play. Rookie Jeenathan Williams posted a near double-double with 22 points, and nine rebounds, while Rawle Alkins, coming off his previous game's triple-double, talled 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. NBA G League All Star, Frank Jackson finished with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Justin Champagnie led the Skyforce in scoring, notching a double-double to finish with a game-high 43 points on 16-of-31 from the floor to go with 13 rebounds. Sam Thompson posted 23 points and four rebounds as a reserve, while Jon Elmore scored another double-double for Sioux Falls on 10 points and 13 assists.
There were five lead changes in the game, all of which were in the first quarter. However, Salt Lake City came out of the period on top, leading Sioux Falls 27-25. The Stars entered the second going on a 16-7 run in the first four minutes. The home team extended their advantage to as many as 16 points (1:22 left in the second). The Skyforce made a late push at the end of the third gaining a single-digit deficit. Sioux Falls attempted to enter the final quarter with a three-point shot, but were unable to overcome the Stars' early lead and secure the basket. The Stars of Salt Lake City took a stride in the final minutes of play before claiming a 124-115 victory over the stacked Skyforce team.
The Stars held the advantage in field goals (50-46), three-pointers (12-10), rebounds (48-39), and blocks (6-5), while the Skyforce served more assists (28-26), grabbed more steals (9-3), and tallied more fast break points (13-11).
The Stars will break for All-Star and return to the Maverik Center for a back-to-back face-off against the Wisconsin Herd on Monday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, Feb. 28. Both games will tip-off at 7 p.m. and be available on NBAGLeague.com.
