Champagnie Drops 42 Points in 124-115 Loss to Stars

West Valley City, UT - The Sioux Falls Skyforce were defeated 124-115, as Justin Champagnie posted a season-high 42 points on 16-31 FG, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals on Monday night from the Maverick Center.

Sioux Falls (11-9) and Salt Lake City (12-9) went back-and-forth in the opening period that saw five different lead changes and ties. The Stars took a 27-25 lead after the first 12 minutes of play.

Salt Lake City scored 45 points in the second period, shooting 81 percent from the field (17-21 FGA) and 75 percent from deep (6-8 3PA). Tyler Cook, Frank Jackson and Christian Vital combined for 37 points in the quarter, which helped build a 72-59 lead at intermission.

Champagnie led the Force in the second half, with 24 points on 9-19 FGA. His 12 points in the third quarter helped Sioux Falls outscore the Stars 90-88 with just 12 minutes remaining.

The Skyforce was able to tie the contest two different times in the fourth quarter but were outscored by seven in the period.

Sam Thompson led Sioux Falls off the bench with a season-high 23 points, four rebounds and three assists. Mychal Mulder chipped in 19 points, four rebounds and five assists to round out top scorers for the Force.

Four players finished with 20-plus points for the Stars, as Cook had a team-high 26 points on 13-17 FGA.

Sioux Falls returns to action on 2/23 as they host the Mexico City Capitanes (13-6) for the first time. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 PM CST at the Sanford Pentagon. Salt Lake City travels to face the Santa Cruz Warriors on 2/25 at 9:00 PM CST.
