El Segundo, Calif., - The Salt Lake City Stars (7-10) the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, captured their second consecutive victory against the South Bay Lakers (10-6) (Los Angeles Lakers affiliate), winning 123-103 at UCLA Health Training Center.
The Stars sank 13 threes and forced 22 Laker turnovers, including 13 steals. Stars guard Isaiah Miller led the Stars offensive attack with 22 points off the bench, and grabbing 10 rebounds, to complete the double-double. Stars forward Taevion Kinsey was nearly perfect form the floor, adding 18 points on seven-of-eight shooting, sinking four threes as well. Stars forward Justin Lewis had his biggest game of the season tallying 18 points on nine-of-10 field goals, six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Meanwhile, Romeo Langford scored 15 points, to go with seven rebounds, and two assists.
The Stars fell behind early, trailing the Lakers by eight halfway through the first quarter. From there, Salt Lake City went on a 21-6 run, ending the first quarter with a 30-23 lead. The second period featured an offensive eruption from the Stars, outscoring the Lakers 40-18. Kinsey alone notched 18 points on a perfect seven-of-seven shooting quarter, including four made threes.
Salt Lake City took a step back in the third quarter, while South Bay forced eight turnovers and cut the lead down to 17. The Stars led 88-71 to start the fourth, and captured the victory 123-103.
Los Angeles Lakers Assignee guard Jalen Hood-Schifino was the game's leading scorer with 26 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Meanwhile South Bay guard Quinndary Weatherspoon added 16 points on an efficient six-for-10 shooting off the bench.
The Stars return to Salt Lake City on Tuesday for the first of two home matchups against the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies affiliate). Tuesday's game will be played at Delta Center. The contest tips off at 6:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on Jazz+ and ESPN+.
