Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 4-0 on Tuesday night in front of 2,791 fans at Cedar Park Center. Lake Erie Monsters' goalie Trevor Cann recorded his first professional shutout with 24 saves, leading the Monsters to a road victory. Lake Erie defenseman Kevin Montgomery, as well as Monsters' forwards Darren Haydar, Phil Dupuis and Chris Durno each scored in the first regulation loss at Cedar Park Center for Texas this season. Goalie Matt Climie suffered the loss with 20 saves on 23 Lake Erie shots. The Stars five-game unbeaten in regulation string was snapped with the defeat. The Texas Stars will get a rematch with Lake Erie on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm at Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Lake Erie claimed a 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the second period. Darren Haydar scored off a loose puck scramble in front of the Texas net, scoring his second goal of the season. The Stars surrendered their first power-play goal of the year at 8:04 of the middle period. Monsters' center Phil Dupuis scored his first goal of the season, ending the Stars penalty kill streak at 22 straight and giving Lake Erie a 2-0 lead. Left wing Chris Durno scored his first of the night at 15:55 of the period, extending the Lake Erie lead to 3-0. The Monsters held the Stars without a shot in the second period.
In the third period, Lake Erie defenseman Kevin Montgomery added an empty-net goal with 1:08 left in the game for the 4-0 final score.
Texas continues a three-game home stand on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm in a rematch with Lake Erie. Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is the presenting sponsor of the game and will provide "Thundersticks" to the first 2,000 fans. On Saturday, October 24th, Texas will host the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:00 pm. State Farm presents the Family Four Pack on the 24th of October, which includes four hockey tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44.00. The first 2,000 fans to the game on Saturday receive a Texas Stars Sports bottle.
