Flyers Trade Defenseman Michael Ratchuk To Columbus For Right Wing Stefan Legein

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that the Flyers have traded defenseman Michael Ratchuk to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for right wing Stefan Legein and then assigned him to the Phantoms.
Legein, 20, comes to Adirondack from the Syracuse Crunch, where he had three points (2 goals, 1 assist) in the club's first six games of the season. The Oakville, Ontario native was drafted by Columbus in the second round (37th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and made his professional debut with the Crunch during the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs on April 26, 2008 at Manitoba; he went scoreless in two games during that series. Legein, 5'10" 188 lbs, got a late start to his first pro season, not making his regular season AHL debut with the Crunch until January 16, 2009 vs. Albany. In 26 games for Syracuse last year he scored one goal and had four penalty minutes.
Legein is reunited with Head Coach Greg Gilbert, who was behind the bench for Legein's first two seasons with the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the OHL (2004-2006). In 153 career OHL games over three seasons with Mississauga/Niagara, he had 128 points (74 goals, 54 assists) and 296 penalty minutes. He was also an alternate captain for Team Canada on the gold-medal-winning squad at the 2008 World Junior Championships. Legein recorded 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and 8 PIMs in 7 games for Team Canada, with a roster that included Flyers forward Claude Giroux.
Ratchuk, 21, was selected by the Flyers in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 85 regular season games for the Phantoms since turning pro at the end of the 2007-08 season, and has recorded six goals and 15 assists for 21 points. He has recorded two assists and two penalty minutes in nine playoff games. In five games for Adirondack this season Ratchuk had one assist and two penalty minutes.
The Phantoms host the New York Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Saturday, October 24th Adirondack travels to Albany for their second of twelve Time Warner Cable Cup games.
