
Stars Select 11 Players in Phase I Draft

Lincoln, Neb. - The Stars selected eight forwards and three defensemen in the Phase I USHL Draft on Tuesday night.
The ten-round Phase I Draft consisted of 2000 birth year players. Below is a breakdown of the players selected and storylines from the draft.
Round 1, Pick #11: Used Tender - Christian Krygier - Defenseman | STATS

STORYLINES
-The Stars used their first-round Phase I selection to tender defenseman Christian Krygier, then picked his twin brother, Cole, in the fifth round of the Phase I Draft.
-The Stars drafted Max Johnson, son of former Stars coach Steve Johnson, in the ninth round of the Phase I Draft. Steve coached in Lincoln for 11 seasons and won two (2) Clark Cups.
-Fourth-round pick Wyatt Schlaht survived a brain hemorrhage in 2015. Story
-The Stars selected six players with fathers who played in the National Hockey League. Christian, Cole Krygier (sons of Todd), Jack McBain (son of Andrew), Zach Dubinsky (son of Steve), Trevor Peca (son of Mike), Philippe Lapointe (son of Martin)
-Zach Dubinsky's father, Steve, was coached by coach Chris Hartsburg's father, Craig, with the Chicago Blackhawks from 1995-1998
-The Stars selected players from eight (8) teams: Little Caesars (3), Chicago Mission (2), St. Sebastian's School (1), Colorado Thunderbirds (1), Team North Dakota (1), EC Salzburg (1), Buffalo Jr. Sabres (1), Don Mills Flyers (1)
-Where They're From: Michigan (3), Illinois (2), Canada (2), Boston (1), New York (1), North Dakota (1), Colorado (1)
The Stars are set to participate in the USHL Phase II Draft on Wednesday, May 3 beginning at 8 am. Players with birth years between 1996-2000 will be available in the Phase II Draft.
The Stars will make their Phase II selections until they've filled their initial 45-man protected list - holding affiliate players, Phase I and Phase II selections.
