Stars Seek Revenge against Capitols

Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (21-17-1) will host the Madison Capitols (15-18-4) on Saturday, Jan. 30 in the Ice Box. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Stars are on a three-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 12-2 during that stretch. Peyton Jones has posted a 0.66 GAA and .977 save percentage through the last three games. Ludvig Hoff leads the Stars with 38 points.

Madison saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday with a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Steel. Sam McCormick leads the Capitols with 16 goals and 13 assists.

The teams have met once before as the Capitols beat the Stars, 4-2, in Madison on Dec. 18. They'll play a total of twice this season.

Jan. 29 vs. Muskegon - (2-1 W)

Will D'Orsi scored twice and Peyton Jones made 28 saves as the Stars earned their third consecutive win. The victory moved Lincoln to 12-8-0 in the Ice Box this season.

Stars Lately - The Stars are first in the Western Conference with 45 points, riding a three-game winning streak and outscoring opponents, 12-2, in their last three games. Ludvig Hoff has a team-leading 38 points, putting him fifth in USHL scoring.

Scouting Madison - The Capitols saw their three-game winning streak snapped last night with a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Steel. Madison sits eighth in the Eastern Conference with 34 points.

Stars vs. Capitols - The Stars are 0-1-0 against the Capitols this season, losing, 4-2 in Madison on Dec. 18. The teams will meet only twice this season.

Keep it 100 - Ryan Jones played his 100th career game on January 29. The Crown Point, Illinois native is in his second season with the Stars.

New Face - The Stars added forward Maxim Rasseikin in January. The Russian forward had 13 points in 43 games for Avto Yekaterinburg of the MHL last season. He logged two games in the Kontinental Hockey League earlier this year.

Stonewall Jones - Peyton Jones has made 88 of 90 saves in his last three games, posting three wins and tying the league lead with four shutouts this season.

Set Schedule - The Stars will play only Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the regular season. They'll play twice at home in February, three times at home in March and four times in April.

Hat Trick Hero - Ludvig Hoff logged his first career hat trick on Jan. 22 against the Sioux City Musketeers. Hoff has 14 goals this season, sharing the team lead with Patrick Polino.

NHL CSS Rankings - Peyton Jones and affiliates Carter Long, Adam Karashik and Tommy Nappier were listed on the NHL CSS midterm rankings released in mid-January.

Pack the Box - The Stars have the second-best attendance in the USHL, averaging 3,365 fans per game. Sioux Falls leads the league, averaging more than 6,000 fans.

Milestone Man - Patrick Polino played his 200th USHL game on Friday, Jan. 8. Polino is also two points shy of 100 career points with 43 goals and 55 assists.

Top Prospects - Ludvig Hoff, Grant Jozefek, Christian Evers and Peyton Jones participated in the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Omaha, Nebraska on Jan. 12. Chris Hartsburg coached Team West and Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager Corey Courtney joined the support staff.

Wild Bunch - The Stars average 18.5 penalty minutes per game, most in the USHL. Biagio Lerario leads the Stars with 99.

20th Anniversary Season - The Stars are celebrating their 20th Anniversary Season this year. The team played its first season in 1996-1997.

Oh Captain, My Captain - Biagio Lerario was named team captain for the 2015-2016 season. Ludvig Hoff, Patrick Polino and Dylan Woolf were named assistants. The Stars eight-man leadership group includes those four players along with Adam Brady, Sam Kauppila, Ryan Jones and Christian Evers.
