Madison Capitols News Release
Lincoln, NE - The Madison Capitols (15-18-2-2) complete the first weekend leg of their lengthy road trip on Saturday with a trip inside the Ice Box in Lincoln against the Stars (22-17-1-0) for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
The Stars have rediscovered their physical and intimidating brand of hockey, winning each of their last three contests, including a 2-1 topping of Muskegon at home on Friday night.
The Capitols came out on top in the clubs' lone other meeting this season, a 4-2 Capitols win at the Alliant Energy Center on Dec. 18. In that game, the Capitols trailed 2-1 entering the final period before rattling off three goals, including a sensational Alex Payusov spinning pass to Sam McCormick for the eventual game-winning tally.
McCormick continues to lead the goal-scoring front, as he notched his team-best and career-high 16th of the season in the Capitols' 5-2 loss to the Steel on Friday in Geneva, Ill.
The Stars were, however, without two of their leading scorers in the clubs' meeting in December, as both Ludvig Hoff (38 points) and Grant Jozefek (34 points) will be available for Chris Hartsburg's club on Saturday.
The Capitols also received contributions from new sources on Friday, as Belarusian Dmitri Buinitsky picked up an assist in his first USHL game on McCormick's power play goal, while Eugene Fadyeyev rifled home his first USHL goal in his first game since Oct. 10 following recovery from an ankle injury.
The Capitols follow up the game in Lincoln on Saturday with a two-game set in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo on Friday & Saturday, Feb. 5-6 respectively.
The Capitols return to the Madison area on Weds., Feb. 10 for a matchup with the Muskegon Lumberjacks at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $10 for general admission and can be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
