Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Sioux City took an early lead but was not able to hold onto it and the Buccaneers came back with a goal in each of the last two periods to defeat the Musketeers 2-1.

Sioux City got the first goal of the game as they have every time they've faced Des Moines this season when Ryan Bederka kept the puck from crossing over his blueline and switched from defense to offense, passing ahead to Mitch Fossier on the left wing side. Fossier slid the puck over to Alex Steeves in the slot who scored his fifth goal of the season at the 6:05 mark of the first period. Neither team was able to muster a lot of offense in the opening 20 minutes with Sioux City outshooting Des Moines 8-5.

In the previous three matchups between these two teams Sioux City has been able to get the first two goals of the game but Zach Jordan flipped that script when he took a pass from Patrick Grasso and cut in with speed, shooting and scoring from low in the right circle to beat Cam Gornet at the 4:10 mark of the second period. Des Moines erupted for 16 shots on net in the period and looked like they'd head into the third period with momentum but a penalty with 2.4 seconds left in the second period swung things Sioux City's way.

Des Moines was able to kill off the penalty and then Nikita Pavlychev took a puck from behind the goal line and wrapped it around the net taking several attempts to pop it past Gornet for the lead. Sioux City kept Des Moines goaltender Nick MacNab busy in the final minutes but MacNab picked up 28 saves and an assist on Jordan's goal in the win.

Up next for the Buccaneers is a home date with the Waterloo Blackhawks on Friday, February 5th, at Buccaneer Arena.
