Des Moines, IA - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, made a second half comeback, snapping a two game losing streak with a 115-111 win over the Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves affiliate).
Seven Stars players scored in double figures. The team was led by Utah Jazz assignment player Taylor Hendricks' 24 points on 6-7 shooting from three, to go along with seven rebounds and a blocked shot. Stars center Nick Ongenda, scored 16 points to complement his six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Utah Jazz two-way guard Jason Preston, notched 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out eight assists in his Salt Lake City debut. Meanwhile guard Michael Devoe added to the victory with 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
The Stars led early at 10-5, however, went scoreless the final eight minutes of the first quarter, missing 12 straight shots to find themselves behind 28-10. In the second frame, Salt Lake City found their shot, shooting .500 from three and using a 14-2 run to cut the Iowa lead to single digits at 50-42.
The team continued to pick up momentum after the break. Salt Lake City held Iowa under .350 shooting in the third quarter. The Stars took a brief one point lead for the first time since the first quarter, and found themselves down by just three, 76-73 headed to the fourth. The Stars exploded for 42 points in the final frame, shooting .682 from the floor, opening up as large as a 10 point lead to secure their second win of the Regular Season, 115-111.
Iowa guard DJ Carton led the Wolves with 32 points and six assists, to go with five made threes. Iowa forward Tyrese Martin added 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Salt Lake City and Iowa square off again Monday morning to complete their back to back in an MLK day matinee. The contest tips off at 11:00 a.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on NBA TV.
