Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY -- The Huntsville Stars (7-8) received a fourth inning game-tying double and an eleventh inning tie-breaking solo home run from Brendan Katin to defeat the Montgomery Biscuits (9-8), 2-1, in a Sunday matinee at Riverwalk Stadium.
The loss dropped Montgomery three games behind first-place Mississippi in the Southern League's South Division.
Chris Nowak put the Biscuits on the scoreboard first with a first inning RBI single off Huntsville starter Manny Parra. That would be the extent of Montgomery's offense against Parra, who scattered five hits and struck out seven batters over seven innings.
Biscuits starter Derek Feldkamp sailed through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. Mike Carlin led off the frame with a double to right-center. Katin followed with a line drive down the third base line to tie the score. Lou Palmisano singled Katin to third, but Feldkamp bore down and induced a line drive double play before striking out Jeff Eure to end the threat.
The Montgomery righthander lasted five innings in all, allowing five hits, walking one and whiffing five. He has yet to record a victory in four starts at the Double-A level.
Biscuits relievers Richard De Los Santos and Nick DeBarr held the Stars at bay through the ninth inning, while their Huntsville counterpart Mark DiFelice did his part in maintaining the 1-1 tie.
Brian Henderson (0-1), Montgomery's fourth pitcher of the afternoon, spun a perfect tenth but fell victim to Katin an inning later. It was the team-leading second home run of the season for the Huntsville rightfielder.
Huntsville southpaw Joe Thatcher (1-0) earned the victory, working out of a two-on two-out jam in the tenth before yielding to teammate Marino Salas with two outs and a man at second in the eleventh.
Salas retired pinch-hitter Gabriel Martinez on a broken-bat flyout to right to end the game, recording his second save in as many opportunities.
Having split the first two games in the five-game series, the Biscuits and Stars face off again on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery southpaw James Houser, Jr. (1-0, 3.31) will head to the hill for the home team, opposed by Huntsville lefthander Adam Pettyjohn (1-0, 2.93).
