Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Jordan Oesterle's centering feed morphed into an overtime-winning goal on Wednesday night, after deflecting off a skate and past Texas Stars goaltender Jussi Rynnas to give the Oklahoma City Barons a 3-2 win in front of 5,187 fans at Cedar Park Center.
Matthew Ford was credited with the winning goal at 4:01 of the extra frame. It was his second overtime goal this season against the Stars, and the third straight meeting the two teams needed extra time to determine a winner.
The two teams will meet again on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
The Barons erased a 2-0 lead for the Stars in the third with goals from Andrew Miller and Iiro Pakarinen. Justin Dowling and Travis Morin each scored for Texas in the loss.
After a scoreless first period, Dowling lifted a backhand shot from the slot over the shoulder of Barons' goaltender Laurent Brossoit at 13:51 of the second period to open the scoring in the contest. Early in the third, Morin added a tally for his 21st point of the season to give the Stars a two-goal lead, but a late burst of offense from the Barons proved to be the difference maker.
Miller tapped in a rebound at the 11:15 mark of the third, and Pakarinen netted a wrist shot from the left circle at 15:22 to draw the Barons even.
Texas defenseman Maxime Fortunus started in his 650th career AHL game and led the Stars with five shots on goal.
Jussi Rynnas stopped 34-of-37 in net for the Stars. Brossoit went 31-of-33 in the win.
Texas finished 0-for-3 on the power play. Oklahoma City went 0-for-4.
