Admirals Trap Wolves 4-1
November 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--Marek Mazanec stopped 22 of 23 shots, while four different Admirals found the back of the net as Milwaukee beat the Chicago Wolves 4-1 in Amtrak Rivalry action on Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Mazanec and gave him his first win since October 24th.
It was also the fourth victory for Milwaukee in five tries against the Wolves this season.
Pontus Aberg put the Ads up 1-0 with 4:55 left in the first period with his sixth goal of the year. Aberg got behind the Chicago defense, took a feed from Anthony Bitetto and lifted a forehand over the left pad of Chicago goalie Matt Climie.
Rich Clune's first goal as an Admiral pushed the team's lead to 2-0 at the 14:13 mark of the second period. Clune came out of a back of players with a puck and there was no Chicago defender between him and Climie. Clune went high stick side to beat Climie for his first AHL goal since December 8th, 2012 while he was with Manchester.
The Wolves cut the Admirals lead in half on a seeing-eye goal from Dmitrij Jaskin with just 3:35 remaining in the second.
However, Miikka Salomaki picked up an insurance goal with just less than eight minutes to play in the game. Felix Girard drove hard to the Chicago net and the puck was poke-check away from him and right to a trailing Salomaki, who slid the back by Climie for a 3-1 Milwaukee lead.
Austin Watson picked up an empty-netter, his 50th goal as an Admiral, to finish off the scoring.
The Admirals hit the road for a pair of games this weekend in Charlotte vs. the Checkers on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Milwaukee's next home game will be on Thursday, December 4th at 7 pm against the Rockford IceHogs.
