NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals broke a three-game losing streak on Wednesday night as they topped the Charlotte Checkers on home ice, 4-1.

Norfolk got off to an explosive start in the first period, and didn't take their foot off the gas. Just 1:18 into the game, Louis Leblanc skated the puck down ice and chipped a seemingly harmless shot from the blueline. However, it fooled Charlotte goaltender Drew MacIntyre and trickled into the net, giving Norfolk a 1-0 advantage. Brendan Bell and Marc Cantin were credited with the assists.

At 13:54 of the period with Rasmus Rissanen in the box for hooking, Chris Wagner extended Norfolk's lead to 2-0, which would last into the intermission. In the thick of traffic at the front of the net, Wagner banged home the puck in the paint for his team-leading eighth goal and 11th point of the season. Matthew Pistilli and Nic Kerdiles got the helpers.

The second period was largely uneventful, with Norfolk continuing to control most of the play. In the dying seconds of the period, however, Charlotte had a takeaway in the slot and ripped a shot on Danis. The Admirals' netminder was up to the task as he turned aside the shot as well as two subsequent attempts. Stationing himself at the edge of the goal mouth, Steckel shoveled the puck out of the zone to keep Charlotte off the board through 40 minutes.

Much like the opening frame, Norfolk made their mark early in the third period. Thanks to a boarding penalty taken by Charlotte's Kyle Hagel, Leblanc scored his second of the game at 3:27, with Bell once again assisting. Bell ripped the initial shot from the blueline, and Leblanc tipped the puck in front past MacIntyre to increase the Admirals' lead to 3-0.

Determined not to be shutout, the Checkers notched a goal of their own just over two minutes later at 5:38. Phil Di Giuseppe took a shot from the right circle and Brendan Woods collected the rebound, executed a spin-o-rama and snapped it past Danis.

With MacIntyre pulled for the extra attacker, newly-reassigned Emerson Etem brought the puck into the Checkers' zone and saucered a shot into the empty net under pressure. Etem's goal, assisted by Jesse Blacker and Steckel, came at 18:38 of the third period and sealed the game for the Admirals, 4-1.

MacIntyre turned aside 25 of 28 shots for Charlotte, and Danis saved 30 of 31 shots for Norfolk. The Checkers went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Admirals went 2-for-5.

The Admirals begin a six-game road trip with a back-to-back on Friday at Hartford and Saturday at Lehigh Valley. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., respectively. They will return to Scope on December 10 to host Charlotte.

Three Stars:

1) NOR #20 Louis Leblanc (2 G)

2) NOR #40 Yann Danis (30 saves)

3) NOR #9 Brendan Bell (2 A)
