Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

HERSHEY, Pa. - A goaltending duel between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Jeff Zatkoff and Hershey's Phillip Grubauer saw the Bears (10-7-1-1, 22 points) come out on top with a 2-1 shootout win over the Penguins (11-8-1-1, 24 points) on Thanksgiving Eve at GIANT Center.

Both netminders would keep a clean slate for the first two periods of play, but it was on Hershey's second power play of the contest that the scoreless tie was broken.

At 8:53 of the third period, Connor Carrick faked a shot at the blueline to freeze the Penguins penalty killers before sending a pass to the far circle that Stanislav Galiev rifled past Zatkoff for a 1-0 Bears lead.

After killing off a Hershey man-advantage late in regulation, the Penguins were left with less than two minutes to try and even the match. For the second time this season against the Bears, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would force overtime with an extra-attacker goal.

With the Penguins net empty, Scott Wilson flung a centering pass from the far post that slid all the way to the left point. Brian Dumoulin gathered the loose puck and quickly fired a shot through a screen to the back of the net to tie the score, 1-1, with 50.9 seconds left in regulation.

Neither team would be able to manage the game-winner in the extra session and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton headed to the shootout for the first time this season.

Dustin Gazley and Jean-Sebastien Dea traded goals in the second round before both goaltender made stops in the following frame. In round four, Chris Brown beat Zatkoff with a low wrister to the glove side, while Grubauer got a piece of Andrew Ebbett's backhand shot to help Hershey skate away with the victory.

Zatkoff finished with 26 saves on 27 shots through overtime and stopped 2-of-4 in the shootout. Grubauer made 24-of-25 saves in the game and turned aside 3-of-4 Penguins shooters.

The Penguins return home to face the St. John's IceCaps on Saturday night at 7:05pm. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Penguins license plate.

Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
