IceCaps Battle Back to Extend Win Streak to Five

November 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps displayed their never-say-die attitude in a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Binghamton Senators Wednesday night at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Down 3-0 after 40 minutes, the IceCaps got goals from John Albert, Carl Klingberg and Chase Balisy and an eventual shootout winner from Kyle MacKinnon for their fifth win in a row and seventh straight game with at least a point.

Connor Hellebuyck was brilliant once again, stopping 42-of-45 shots and all six shooters in the shootout. Balisy and Albert finished the game with a goal and an assist each.

Shane Prince opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first on a laser of a shot. Carter Camper dished to Prince on the right wing, and the Senators forward ripped a shot over a helpless Hellebuyck for a 1-0 Binghamton lead.

Prince notched his second of the game in the middle frame just after a penalty to Eric O'Dell expired. Prince gathered the puck and weaved his way into the slot before firing a wrister that beat Hellebuyck on the blocker side, giving the Senators a 2-0 advantage.

Just minutes later on a delayed penalty call, the Senators extended their lead to 3-0. Chris Wideman took a pass on the right side and wired a shot past Hellebuyck as Binghamton was playing with the extra attacker.

In the third, the IceCaps got on the board early to start the comeback. Albert gathered the loose puck in front and beat a downed Scott Greenham for his sixth of the season to narrow the gap to two.

After the play, the Senators were assessed a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and the IceCaps converted on the ensuing power play. On a broken play, Klingberg grabbed the puck in the slot and spun before firing a shot that found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 game.

St. John's kept coming and evened the score at three apiece with their third goal of the period at the 7:52 mark. Will O'Neill sent a slap pass from the point right on the tape of Balisy at the side of the goal, and the rookie went upstairs to tie the game.

A wild back-and-forth overtime solved nothing, so the teams headed to a shootout to decide the outcome.

After the first five shooters for each team were unable to bury the biscuit, MacKinnon snapped one past Greenham to put the pressure on the Senators. Hellebuyck was up to the task for St. John's and stood his ground to stop Ryan Dzingel and secure the win.

The IceCaps continue their road trip Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to face the Penguins (8:30 p.m. NST). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com, 930AM and www.ahllive.com. Pregame show gets underway at 8:00.
