SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Lincoln Stars (17-19-0-1) couldn't hold off the Sioux Falls Stampede (22-11-4-3) in a 4-2 loss on Friday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Stampede scored the game's first goal. Defenseman Paul DeNaples opened with a shot from the high slot at 8:53 of the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Stars answered later in the frame at 14:13 when forward Philippe Lapointe tipped a shot coming from defenseman Atte Tuliara to tie the game, 1-1.
The Stampede scored three-unanswered goals in the third period to spring ahead late. Forward Artem Ivanyuzhenkov started at 7:16 followed by two goals from forward Adam Dawe at 10:43 and 13:05, respectively, to take a 4-1 lead. Stars forward Tristan Ashbrook broke the run at 14:18 with a shot from the left circle to cut the lead in half, 4-2. The Stars pushed back late but came up short in the 4-2 loss.
Stampede netminder Mikhail Berdin (16-6-4) stopped 24 of 26 shots in the win, while Stars goaltender TomáÅ=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka (11-15-0) saved 16 of 20 shots in the loss. . The Stars finish their four-game road trip on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7:05 p.m. against the Des Moines Buccaneers from Buccaneer Arena.
