Lincoln Stars News Release

KEARNEY, NE - On Friday, the Stars returned from their Christmas break to take on the Western Conference leading Tri-City Storm.

In the pair's seventh meeting of the season, the Storm started quickly out of the gate, seeing Joe Berg tip Ronnie Attard's point shot past Tyler Johnson for the 1-0 lead just 1:30 into play. Shane Pinto would announce his return to the Stars lineup at 9:13 with a dazzling deke through the top-ranked Tri-City defense, ripping a power play goal past the USHL's top goalie Isaiah Saville to even the score at one. The Storm came back with Brendan Furry's first goal in his first game with the Storm at 12:15. Traded across the state earlier in the week, the former Lancer picked up his third goal against the Stars this season on a crisp set up from Zac Jones. The 2-1 Storm lead would last through the remainder of the first period.

In the second, both teams would trade quality but unsuccessful chances on goal. Isaiah Saville and Tyler Johnson both stood tall as each team failed to find the back of the net in an evenly played middle 20.

Ronnie Attard provided separation for Tri-City to start the third. Already on a power play, a delayed call added to the Storm's numbers. In the confusion, the puck found Attard who found the back of net on a heavy shot that beat Johnson. The penalty kill clamped down for the Storm the rest of the way, cancelling the Stars final three chances, including a 5-on-3 down the stretch of the third to secure the 3-1 win.

The Stars will return to action tomorrow on the road against Sioux City at 7:05 pm CST.
