Maccelli's Overtime Winner Gives Dubuque 3-2 Win

James Sanchez equalized late and Matias Maccelli scored the game winner 28 seconds in to overtime as the Dubuque Fighting Saints skated out of Green Bay with a come from behind win on Thursday night. The Fighting Saints fell behind with under seven minutes to play, but battled back with the goalie pulled to force overtime.

-Dubuque is now 5-1-3 in the team's last nine games as they continue to grab points and make up ground in the east. Dubuque looked to be out of this game after a late goal from Green Bay, but the Fighting Saints tallied with a late push.

-The goal from Sanchez, which came with under two minutes to play, was from his typical spot towards the bottom of the right circle. Sanchez went bar down over the glove hand of Ryan Ullan to knot things up at two. The goal extended Sanchez's point streak to 13 games, the third longest point streak this season in the USHL.

-The longest point streak in the league belongs to Matias Maccelli, who tallied the overtime winner 28 seconds in to the extra stanza. After a save from Matthew Thiessen, Riese Gaber led a two on one with Maccelli who grabbed the pass from Gaber and riffled the puck over the blocker of Ullan. Maccelli has points in 15 straight games for the Fighting Saints.

-This was the third of four games so far this season between the Gamblers and Fighting Saints that has been decided by one goal. Green Bay has won 3-2 and 1-0, while Dubuque has won 7-1 and 3-2 as well.

-The Gamblers started Ullan in net for the first time against Dubuque and he was solid, allowing three goals on 27 shots. Matthew Thiessen was similarly solid with a smaller sample size. Thiessen turned away 15 pucks for his eighth victory of the season.

-The win tonight puts Dubuque just a point back of idle Chicago in the Eastern Conference standings. The Fighting Saints have now secured points in six straight games dating back to their weekend series against the Muskegon Lumberjacks during the second weekend of December.

-Green Bay scored both of their goals on the power play, using five Fighting Saints penalties to their advantage. The Gamblers came in to the game operating at just over 16% on the man advantage. Dubuque's penalty kill was 75% coming in to the game and continued to show some signs of weakness.

-Verners Egle had one of his better games as a Fighting Saint. He tallied first for Dubuque and created chances off the majority of his line rushes. Egle was one of the most noticeable forwards on the ice for either team during the contest Thursday night.

-Both Dubuque as Green Bay will have tomorrow off, before facing each other again on Saturday night at the Mystique Community Ice Center in Dubuque.
