SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (1-3), the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Rip City Remix (2-2) (Portland Trail Blazers affiliate) 126-122 tonight at the Maverik Center.
The Stars were led by Utah Jazz assignment player Taylor Hendricks, who finished with 23 points, shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. The rookie added an additional seven rebounds and two assists for the Stars. Utah Jazz two-way Micah Potter, tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while fellow two-way player Johnny Juzang, notched 18 points, four assists, and three rebounds off the bench. Utah Jazz assignment guard Brice Sensabaugh, put up 15 points, served seven assists, and took two steals.
Rip City was led by Portland Trailblazers two-way guard Justin Minaya's 22 points, and three assists. Portland Trail Blazers assignment player Rayan Rupert, notched an impressive double-double on 19 points, paired with 16 rebounds.
The Stars and Remix traded buckets in a back-and-forth first quarter that saw four lead changes, and four ties. Hendricks' 14 first-quarter points, and buzzer-beating three-point shot, sent the Stars into the second with a 30-29 lead. The second quarter featured an offensive explosion as both teams shot over .600 from the floor and combined for 76 points. While the Remix knocked down nine threes, the Stars knocked down six of their own, heading into the break trailing by just one point (68-67).
The home team came out hot in the third, shooting .750 from the field, stretching their lead to its largest at 14 points. In the fourth quarter the Remix pushed back, holding the Stars to just .333 from the floor. Salt Lake City was outscored 38-20 in the final frame as they fell to the Rip City Remix's comeback, 126-122.
Salt Lake City heads back on the road to take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce for the first time this season. The match-up will take placeat the Sanford Pentagon on Sunday, Jan. 7. The contest tips off at 2 pm MT and will be broadcast LIVE on NBA TV.
