Stars Fall to Kings

January 17, 2019 - NBA G League (G League) - Salt Lake City Stars News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Stockton Kings 117-113 tonight at Bruin Arena.

Three Stars players reached the 20-point threshold for the second-straight game. Salt Lake City (13-12) was led by Shonn Miller, who recorded his first 20/10 game of the season with an NBA G League career-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four blocks. Isaiah Cousins logged his second consecutive 20-point game with 20 points, while Trey Lewis led all Stars reserves with 22 points, his fourth 20-point effort of the season. Stephaun Branch scored 11 points and grabbed six boards, while Isaac Haas recorded seven points in 16 minutes in his first start of the season. New Orleans Pelicans two-way player Trevon Bluiett scored 12 points (all in the fourth quarter) and grabbed five rebounds.

The Kings (15-9) were led by Cameron Reynolds, who scored an NBA G League career-high 36 points (23 in the first half) and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Sacramento Kings two-way player Troy Williams recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 15 boards, and Sacramento Kings two-way player Wenyen Gabriel scored 11 points and collected four rebounds. Marcus Williams notched a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 assists, while Reggie Hearn finished with 22 points and eight boards.

The Kings built a 16-0 advantage over the Stars to begin the game and held a 21-point lead at the end of the first, scoring 43 points in the frame on 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point range. The Kings led by 21 points at the end of the third quarter (98-77), but the Stars chipped away in the final period, outscoring Stockton 33-12 to tie the game at 110-all with 3:21 remaining. The Kings finished the contest on a 7-3 run to end the game and earn the four-point win.

The Stars committed five turnovers, the fewest in Stars/Idaho Stampede franchise history and an NBA G League low in a game this season, compared to the Kings' 19 miscues. The Kings led the Stars in assists (23-22), rebounds (54-36) and field goal percentage (.481-.391).

Salt Lake City will begin a three-game road trip on Friday, Jan. 18, against the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors affiliate) at 8 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast on Facebook Live, which can be accessed via the Salt Lake City Stars Facebook page.
