Lincoln Stars News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks forced a winner-take-the-series Game 3 with a 6-1 win over the Lincoln Stars on Saturday night at Young Arena.
In a penalty-filled night Waterloo evened up the series after dropping the series-opener, 7-2, the night prior. The two teams combined for 42 penalty minutes and 14 power plays. Mason Marcellus scored Lincoln's only goal with a power-play tally at the 17:34 mark of the second period.
The Black Hawks led 2-1 entering the second intermission but regained a two-goal lead 56 seconds into the third period and then added three goals in the final 1:07 of the game. Connor Brown led Waterloo with a pair of goals, including the game-winner on a wraparound wrist shot at the 15:38 mark of the second.
Lincoln faces Waterloo at 3:05 p.m. on Friday in Game 3 to conclude the series. The winner moves on to face the Fargo Force in the Western Conference Finals, beginning on May 5. Fargo advanced via an overtime win on Saturday to complete a two-game sweep of Tri-City.
"We're a confident bunch," head coach Rocky Russo said. "We've got a lot to lean on when it comes to what is left in the tank. I am very comfortable with us going into a Game 3. I'm very comfortable with our goaltending and our guys finding a way to win."
