Stars Defeat Clippers to Earn Second Wire-To-Wire Victory of the Season

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Agua Caliente Clippers 113-109 at Bruin Arena tonight, earning the club's second wire-to-wire victory of the season.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Stars, led by Utah Jazz two-way player Justin Wright-Foreman, who finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Trevon Bluiett recorded his second consecutive 20-point game with 22 points on 8-of-10 (.800) from the field and 5-of-7 (.714) from long distance. Jazz assignment player Nigel Williams-Goss tallied 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Jazz two-way player Jarrell Brantley notched his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Clippers were paced by James Palmer Jr., who tallied 24 points, five rebounds and three assists in just over 26 minutes off the bench. Mfiondu Kabengele recorded his fifth 20/10 game of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes added 20 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Salt Lake City opened the game on a 23-5 run and shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the opening frame to take a 22-point advantage (40-18). The Stars widened their lead to as many as 28 points in the second quarter and carried a 20-point lead (67-47) into intermission. Agua Caliente came alive in the second half, closing the third period on a 19-7 run to cut the Stars' lead to single digits (92-83) entering the final frame. The Clippers came within two points late in the fourth quarter, but Salt Lake City pulled away for the four-point victory.

The Stars grabbed more rebounds (47-44), dished out more assists (24-19), tallied more points in the paint (68-58) and outshot Agua Caliente (.529-.449). The Clippers held the advantage in turnovers (12-17), second chance points (20-12), bench points (44-16) and steals (9-8).

Salt Lake City will continue its six-game homestand with "STEM Education Night presented by adidas and Med One Group" on Friday, Jan. 24 against the Stockton Kings (Sacramento Kings affiliate). The game, which tips off at 7 p.m. (MT) at Vivint Smart Home Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, will be streamed on NBAGLeague.com.
