Santa Cruz Warriors and 1440 Multiversity Host Interactive Cooking Class

January 23, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors and 1440 Multiversity - a 75-acre modern learning destination and philanthropic campus in Scotts Valley - have launched a new community educational partnership for the 2019-20 season, the team announced today. The Warriors players, coaches and fans will engage with the campus in a series of unique immersive learning events that involve culinary, health and wellness, and personal growth opportunities for which 1440 Multiversity is known.

The first scheduled learning event in January is an interactive cooking class with a group of youth from the Santa Cruz County community. Fifteen teens (aged 14-18) from Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Services will join Santa Cruz Warriors Forward Nick Zeisloft and Santa Cruz Warriors Assistant Coach Anthony Vereen at the 1440 Multiversity Teaching Kitchen. 1440 Multiversity Executive Chef Kenny Woods will lead the group through a fun and interactive taco-cooking demonstration, and the youth will learn the benefits of nutritious, local, and organic anti-inflammatory ingredients and why they are beneficial through their integrated health treatments.

In February, Warriors players and coaches will return to campus for the second learning event of the partnership, a private Strength and Surrender vinyasa yoga class led by a 1440 Multiversity Signature Experience instructor. The players and coaches will benefit from meditation and movements to release tension and restore their bodies from the stresses of the NBA G League season.

Finally, in the spring, 1440 Multiversity and the Warriors look forward to hosting a Warriors Women's Wellness Retreat, which is an engaging learning event open to the public. Slated for April 5, this special half-day gathering will focus on personal growth, professional development, and healing, incorporating keynote speakers and elements of the 1440 Multiversity campus like the Healing Arts center and the communal Kitchen Table dining space. Speakers and workshops will be released closer to the event date.

Named for the number of minutes in a day, 1440 Multiversity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit campus and retreat nestled in the redwoods between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley. Since opening its doors in May 2017, the campus has quickly become a favorite place for monthly community events and hundreds of weekend and 5-day programs, along with an inspirational destination for group meetings and conferences. As an all-inclusive learning destination, 1440 Multiversity serves three nutritious gourmet meals a day at Kitchen Table, and guests participate in daily campus activities that promote relaxation, reflection, and engagement, such as yoga, tai chi, qigong and meditation; guided nature walks and hikes; workshops in community drumming and sound journeys; and free time to spend in the infinity-edge hot tub, Common Grounds cafe and Common Goods retail shop.
