BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars defeated the Birmingham Barons by the score of 11-3 on Friday evening, June 2nd, in Southern League action at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Ahead by just one run after six, Huntsville pushed across seven runs in the top of the seventh and held the Barons scoreless the rest of the way. Steve Moss went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Brad Nelson, Jeff Eure and Ozzie Chavez also scored twice for the Stars (21-33) while starter Corey Thurman (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K) picked up the win to improve his record to 2-4.

Birmingham starter Ray Liotta (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K; now 1-6) suffered the loss in a game during which the Barons (24-32) committed four errors. Michael Myers (3) and Micah Schnurstein (4) both homered in the losing effort.

Birmingham will continue its five-game series with Huntsville on Saturday, June 3rd, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Hoover Met. RHP Tim Dillard (2-4, 3.79 ERA) is listed as the probable starter for the Stars, while RHP Lance Broadway (4-2, 2.30 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Barons.
