Lincoln Stars News Release
The Lincoln Stars overcame two different deficits but lost the season series finale against the Waterloo Black Hawks, 4-3, on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Tanner Ludtke scored two goals for his sixth multi-goal game of the season. His 29 goals are second-most in the USHL and he recorded his third game with at least three points.
Lincoln (33-19-3-1) trailed 2-0 after the first but answered with a pair of goals in the second as Ludtke struck from in between the two circles on the power play for his 12th on the man advantage for Lincoln's first goal of the night at the 6:40 mark of the second. His second goal came in the third period to tie the game up as he wristed a puck from the near circle to the net but it caught a Waterloo skate and redirected into the net at the 2:23 mark of the third for his 30th of the season.
Gavin O'Connell scored twice for Waterloo (35-19-1), including the game-winner at the 8:39 mark of the third on a backhander far-post side. His first goal doubled up the Black Hawks' lead in the first on an unassisted wrist shot from the top of the blue line far side.
Miko Matikka opened the scoring for Waterloo with his 26th of the season midway through the first when Gavyn Thoreson found him alone backdoor shortly after a power play expired. Garrett Schifsky scored Waterloo's other goal in the second to give the Black Hawks the lead again before Ludtke's second of the night tied it up.
Mason Marcellus even the game up at 9:47 of the second when another Ludtke shot found it's way in. His wrist shot struck Marcellus waist high to redirect into the net to give the Stars' captain his third straight multi-point game. Marcellus leads the USHL with 45 assists.
The Stars take on the Omaha Lancers to wrap up their regular-season series. Friday's 7:05 p.m. is at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena before Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Ice Box on Saturday at 6:05. Tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com.
