Madison Capitols News Release
Following a great performance on Saturday night, Madison looked for an undefeated weekend on Sunday afternoon hosting the USNTDP U-17's. Early on, it looked like Madison would follow up the performance with an A+ effort.
Effort has been the number one message from the Capitols coaching staff since they took over three weeks ago, and in the first period, that's exactly what they provided. Madison out-hustled and out-whit the US early on as they had the red, white, and blue squad on their heels. This resulted in an effort goal from the Caps that had a bounce go their way on a two-on-one with Brandt and Felicio tangling up the player in between them for a deflection into the back of the net. The US answered, though, with a pair of goals of their own to end things in the first with the lead.
Through twenty, the US had the lead, but that would change through forty as Madison struck for three goals in the second period. Goals that show effort with Flynn and Brink slamming home rebounds to put the Caps at a tied contest was followed up by a goal by Brendan Lamb to take the lead.
A 4-3 contest entering the third period became a 4-4 tie half way through the period when the US struck even things. Chances were exchanged by both sides throughout the rest of the period, but this game was destined for overtime. Although each team had chances, the game went to a shootout, which was won by the US.
Madison falls to 13-38-2-2 on the season. The Caps return home next weekend to face off against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Friday night, which is the second to last $1 Beer Night of the season.
