
The Aftermath: Storm Defeats Stampede on Youth Hockey Night

KEARNEY, NE - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 6-4 Saturday night at the Viaero Center in the organization's annual Youth Hockey Night. Trevor Connelly (2), Daimon Gardner, Cam O'Neill, Kieran Cebrian, and Jake Richard scored for Tri-City in the victory. Connelly's two-goal performance tied an organizational record for garnering at least one point in seventeen consecutive games. Patriks Bçrziòð notched the win in net for the Storm after turning away 24 of Sioux Falls' 28 shots on goal. Tri-City returns to action on Tuesday night in a home game at the Viaero Center against the Omaha Lancers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Daimon Gardner netted his eleventh goal of the year at 11:39 of Saturday's opening period to give the Storm a one-goal lead in the matchup. Sebastian Törnqvist notched an assist on the scoring play. Samuel Harris tied the game for the Stampede with less than a minute to play in the period with his twenty-seventh goal of the season. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Maddox Fleming and JJ Wiebusch. The Storm outshot the Stampede 11-9 during the 1st period, and Saturday's 2nd period began in a 1-1 tie.
Trevor Connelly scored his first goal of the night, and nineteenth goal of the season, at 5:48 of the middle period to give Tri-City a 2-1 lead in the battle. Cam O'Neill scored his ninth goal of the season with less than three minutes to play in the period to increase Tri-City's lead to two goals. O'Neill's goal was netted at 17:05 of the 2nd period, and was assisted by Daimon Gardner and Evan Werner. The Stampede responded with Samuel Harris' second goal of the game, and twenty-eighth goal of the season, with less than two minutes to play in the middle period. The goal was assisted by Maddox Fleming, and Alexander Rybakov, and cut Tri-City's lead in half. The Storm was outshot 8-5 during Saturday's 2nd period, and the team carried a 3-2 lead into the 3rd period.
The 3rd period was filled with offense, as the two Western Conference opponents combined for five goals. The opening goal of the final period was scored by Isaac Gordon at 5:44. The goal was Gordon's first of the game, and eighteenth of the season. Max Rud and Samuel Harris each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The scoring play was completed on the powerplay, and brought the game to a 3-3 tie. Trevor Connelly netted his second goal of the night, and twentieth goal of the season, at 9:51 of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 4-3 lead in the matchup. The goal was scored unassisted, on a breakaway. Kieran Cebrian scored his sixteenth goal of the year at 12:04 of the 3rd period to give the Storm a 5-3 lead in the game. Alex Bump and Jake Richard each notched an assist on the scoring play. The Stampede answered with the team's fourth goal of the night with less than five minutes to play. Isaac Gordon netted his second goal of the game, and nineteenth goal of the season to bring Sioux Falls within one of the Tri-City lead. Will McDonough notched an assist on the play. The final goal of Saturday's game was scored into an empty net by Jake Richard. Richard's team-leading thirtieth goal of the season gave the Storm a 6-4 lead with sixty-five seconds left to play. Tri-City collected a 6-4 victory, and improved to 31-18-3-3 on the season. The Stampede outshot the Storm 11-10 during Saturday's 3rd period, and 28-26 overall in the matchup.
Patriks Bçrziòð stopped 24 of Sioux Falls' 28 shots on net to pick up the win in goal for Tri-City. Bçrziòð improved to 10-2-1-0 on the year in goal for the Storm with the victory. Caleb Heil dropped the game in net for the Stampede after making 20 saves on 25 shots.
Trevor Connelly was named the 1st Star of the Game, with teammates Daimon Gardner and Alex Bump collecting 2nd and 3rd Star honors respectively. Saturday's Youth Hockey Night game was played in front of a crowd of 2,715 at the Viaero Center.
