Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, in conjunction with the NHL and the ECHL today announced that hockey's most prestigious trophy, the Stanley Cup, will be at the Sovereign Center on Saturday, November 19, when the Royals host the South Carolina Stingrays.
The Cup's stop in Reading is part of a nationwide tour being conducted by the NHL, the ECHL and its member clubs to raise money and awareness for victims of the recent hurricanes in the Gulf Coast and Florida. Fans will have an opportunity to have their photograph taken with the Cup at the Sovereign Center during the Royals' game. There will also be an opportunity for fans to make a donation to hurricane relief efforts. The funds raised during the Stanley Cup's tour will go to benefit the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the United Way and other charities involved in the relief effort.
"I would like to thank Commissioner Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League, the NHL Players' Association and the Hockey Hall of Fame for their role in raising the level of awareness and assistance for people in both Mississippi and Southeast Texas, two ECHL markets hard hit by this season's recent hurricanes. We encourage fans in all participating cities to come see professional sport's most famous trophy and help in fundraising at the same time," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna.
The Cup arrives at the Sovereign Center in a timely fashion, as the Royals have dedicated that mid-November weekend to the ongoing nationwide efforts to aid in natural disaster relief. In fact, during Reading's November 18 game against the Dayton Bombers, the Royals will wear commemorative New Orleans Brass replica jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to the American Red Cross' efforts to respond to natural disasters.
"Our organization is committed to doing all that we can to help those persons who were impacted by the recent hurricanes. We are pleased to have the opportunity to host the Stanley Cup on November 19. It is not only an honor to have hockey's most prestigious trophy in our building, but it also comes at a time when we are focused on assisting in the nationwide effort to respond to the recent natural disasters."
The Royals play in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Friday night, and then the team returns to the Sovereign Center on Saturday, October 29, for the home opener against the Trenton Titans. The Royals will raise the North Division regular season championship banner prior to the drop of the puck. For ticket information including; season, half-season and quarter-season ticket packages visit the Royals website at www.royalshockey.com or call the Royals Hockey Headquarters at 610-898-PUCK (7825).
