Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), two-time Western Conference champions and six time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, announced today that forward Riley Sutter has been selected by the Washington Capitals in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Sutter was selected as the second pick in back-to-back Silvertips selections in the third round of the draft in Dallas, at American Airlines Center. Connor Dewar (Minnesota) was taken 92nd overall.

"The Everett Silvertips congratulate Riley Sutter on being selected by the Washington Capitals in the third round of the NHL Draft," said Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson. "His name brings instant credibility to his future in this sport, but it's his body of work that everyone should notice. He's made this moment a reality based on his dedication and work ethic, and we're proud to have him as a leader to set that example for all Silvertips scheduled for this next season."

Sutter, 18, completed his third season with the Silvertips helping guide the club to their second Western Conference title and sixth U.S. Division championship with career highs in goals (25), assists (28), points (53) and plus-minus (+22) in 68 games. He went 52.4 percent at the face-off circle (715 of 1,364) this season and his five game winning goals were tied for fourth on the Silvertips.

A participant at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, the 6-foot-3, 205 pound forward skated in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Guelph, Ontario last season and has 96 points, 46 goals, and 50 assists in 166 career WHL games, all with the Silvertips. His +17 rating was tied for third in the WHL Playoffs and he earned 19 points (9g-10a) in 21 postseason games, also leading the Silvertips in playoff game winning goals (3).

Finishing among the top ranked North American skaters in the Final Rankings (#117) of players eligible for the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, released by NHL Central Scouting, Sutter had five multi point games in the playoffs and tied for the Silvertips lead in points (5) in the Rogers WHL Championship Series. During regular season play, he was one of four Silvertips to earn a hat trick and his career high five point game (4g-1a) on Dec. 27 included four goals, tying the franchise record for most goals in a game.

The 1999-born (late birth year category) forward had 13 multi point games and three multi goal games during the regular season.

Riley's father, Ron skated 19 seasons as a forward and two-year captain in the National Hockey League with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Quebec, Boston, Phoenix, San Jose, Calgary and the New York Islanders. His Uncle, Darryl led the Los Angeles Kings to two Stanley Cup championships as head coach. Riley's family includes ten former players who have suited up in the WHL.

Washington claimed their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history this month, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights.
