Stamps Select Nine Players in CFL Draft

The Calgary Stampeders chose a total of nine players in Thursday's Canadian Football League draft.

The team's picks were as follows:

Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund

1st round - 3rd overall

Defensive lineman

Southeastern Louisiana

6-foot-2, 250 lbs.

Adeyemi-Berglund played 33 games over three seasons (2017-19) at Southeastern Louisiana. The Dartmouth, N.S., product totalled 135 tackles including 28 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, six forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 11 quarterback hurries and 10 pass breakups. He was second-team all-Southland Conference as a senior in 2019. Prior to joining the Lions, Adeyemi-Berglund played one season at Champlain Regional College in Lennoxville, Que.

Trivel Pinto

2nd round - 12th overall

5-foot-11, 190 lbs.

A native of Toronto, Pinto has 234 receptions for 3,324 yards and 30 touchdowns in 41 games over his four-year career (2015-18) at UBC. He also spent time at returner and defensive back, adding one kickoff-return touchdown and one interception returned for a score. Pinto made 75 catches for 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns last season with the Thunderbirds. Pinto was a member of UBC's Vanier Cup championship team in 2015.

Rysen John

3rd round - 21st overall

Simon Fraser

6-foot-7, 220 lbs.

John led the NCAA Division II's Great Northwest Athletic Conference in receptions (53), receiving yards (861) and touchdowns (10) in 10 games as a senior in 2019. In his four-year career (2016-19) with the Clan, John played 34 games registering 132 catches for 1,928 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was named SFU's MVP and offensive player of the year in 2019. John signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants following the 2020 NFL draft.

Jon Zamora

3rd round - 26th overall

Offensive lineman

St. Francis Xavier

6-foot-3, 319 lbs.

In four seasons (2016-19) with St. Francis Xavier, Zamora has appeared in 31 games at either centre or guard. The product of Toronto was named an Atlantic University Sport all-star and a member of the X-Men's conference-championship squad in 2019 before being selected to the U SPORTS East-West Bowl. Zamora studied business while at St. Francis Xavier.

Kurtis Gray

4th round - 31st overall

Linebacker

Waterloo

6-foot-3, 200 lbs.

Gray has played 32 games over four seasons (2016-19) for his hometown Waterloo Warriors. The linebacker has recorded 164 solo tackles including 11.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and 10 pass breakups. In 2019, Gray led U SPORTS with three forced fumbles and was named a U SPORTS first-team all-star on special teams. He also played in the East-West Bowl.

Tyson Middlemost

4th round - 34th overall

McMaster

6-foot-2, 205 lbs.

Middlemost has made 83 receptions for 1,032 yards and seven touchdowns at McMaster. Hailing from Dundas, Ont., he played 26 games in four seasons (2016-19). Middlemost registered a career-high 119 yards - including a 72-yard reception - in a Sept. 21, 2019, victory over Windsor. In 2019, the economics major recorded 32 receptions for 528 yards and four majors as the Marauders won the Yates Cup.

Andrew Seinet-Spaulding

6th round - 52nd overall

Defensive lineman

McGill

6-foot, 292 lbs.

The 2019 recipient of the J.P. Metras Trophy as U SPORTS' most outstanding lineman, Seinet-Spaulding was a unanimous of the RSEQ all-star selection. He led the Quebec conference in sacks (seven) and tackles for loss (13.5) last season. He added 27.5 total tackles. Seinet-Spaulding was named the RSEQ defensive rookie of the year in 2016, an RSEQ all-star in both 2017 and 2018 before being honoured as a U SPORTS first-team all-Canadian in 2019. He studies social work at McGill.

Keiran Burnham

7th round - 61st overall

Kicker

St. Francis Xavier

6-foot-2, 174 lbs.

Burnham has suited up in 32 games over four seasons (2016-19) with the X-Men. Originally from Cambridge, Ont., Burnham was an AUS all-star at punter in 2019 when he punted 52 times for an average of 42.8 yards. His longest punt went for 64 yards and he had 14 punts inside the opposition's 20 yard-line. He has also made 29 of 37 field goal attempts for a success rate of 78 per-cent. In addition, Burnham has been successful on all 27 of his convert attempts for a total of 114 career points scored.

Michael Asibuo

8th round - 70th overall

Defensive back

Concordia

5-foot-11, 195 lbs.

As a four-year member (2016-19) of the Stingers, Asibuo has totalled 51 tackles, five interceptions, 11 pass breakups and one forced fumble. In 2019, Asibuo played seven games and made 15 total tackles and three pass breakups. Asibuo is a history major hailing from LaSalle, Que. Prior to enrolling at Concordia, he played at CEGEP's John Abbott College, which current Stamps kicker Rene Paredes once attended.
