Chicago Steel News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA - Sioux Falls right wing Collin Peters was the only player to score in a five-round shootout as the Stampede (13-10-0-1, 27 points) defeated the Chicago Steel (9-10-2-2, 22 points) 4-3 Saturday in front of 6,227 fans at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. Following the one point gained from the shootout loss, Chicago has now earned at least one point in 10 of its last 12 games.

For a 14th time in 23 games this season, Chicago opened up the scoring. Steel right wing Christiano Versich tallied his second goal of the weekend, taking a feed from Brandon Duhaime and burying a wrister past the blocker of Stampede netminder Stefanos Lekkas at 3:28. The Stampede responded later in the period when Jack Becker scored a power play goal on fellow Boston Bruins prospect, Steel goaltender Daniel Vladar, at 15:41. Sioux Falls then took the lead, 2-1, as a goal was awarded after video review to former Steel forward Jack Doremus, who repeatedly jabbed at the puck under Vladar from the top of the crease.

Chicago mustered just three shots on goal in the second period, but one entered the net, as Steel winger Lucas Michaud pinpointed a shot over the right shoulder of Lekkas at 11:44.

Sioux Falls regained the lead early in the third period as Willow Springs, IL native Daniel Warpecha scored the first shorthanded goal against the Steel this season. Chicago would tie the game once again later in the period, as defenseman Grant Gabriele snuck his way to the top of the crease and deflected a Max Zimmer feed past Lekkas at 8:32. The Steel had a furious flurry of offense toward the end of the third period but were unable to gain the lead as the game headed to overtime.

In the extra session, the Steel could not take advantage of the only 4-on-3 power play opportunity. The tightly-contested seven minute overtime featured just three shots on goal, including only one for the Stampede, and no goals were scored, forcing a shootout.

Collin Peters was the tenth player to try his luck in the shootout and the only one to score, as Sioux Falls won the shootout 1-0 in the 5th round, winning the game 4-3.

Steel goaltender Daniel Vladar stopped four of five shooters in the shootout in addition to 28 saves in regulation and overtime. The Steel went 0-for-4 on the power play as the team remained winless in four games this season that have progressed to overtime.
