Kearney, Ne. - Carson Meyer scored in the first minute of the game, sending the teddy bears flying and the Stars reeling, 4-1, against the Lincoln Stars Saturday at the Viaero Center.
The goal, Meyer's team-leading 12th of the season, started an avalanche matched by Tri-City goalie Dayton Rasmussen, who made 29 saves on 30 shot in his Storm debut for his first USHL victory.
The fans threw teddy bears on the ice as part of the Storm's Teddy Bear Toss after Meyer's first goal, with the Marine Corps collecting the bears thrown by Storm fans for charity.
Wade Allison scored twice for the Storm, giving him five goals and seven points in his last seven games.
Meyer's offensive rush 37 seconds into the first catapulted Tri-City to a 1-0 lead on the Storm's second shot on goal. The deflection goal, assisted by Mattias Goransson and Nico Sturm, gives Meyer goals in three straight games.
After that, the Teddy Bear Toss caused a five-minute delay.
Sturm is scoring at a point-per-game clip over the last month, burying three goals and tallying eight points in his last eight contests.
The situation did not improve for Patrik Virtanen, who took the loss with 19 saves. Paul Washe scored on another deflection goal at the 10:56 mark of the first, assisted by John Marino. The 18-year-old Marino threw the puck net front off of Washe.
As the Storm's Rasmussen denied Lincoln, two fights also broke out. First, Tory Dello fought Adam Brady at the 18:13 mark of the first. Next, Wade Allison fought Lincoln's Luke Jaycox at 5:13 of the second.
Once Allison returned for the third, he heated up offensively, potting consecutive goals, a shorthanded goal and an empty-net tally.
First, Allison generated a two-on-one with Dan Labosky and potted his first goal at 11:47 of the third, skying the puck from the right circle over Virtanen. After Pat Polino scored 1:04 later on the man up to cut the lead to 3-1, Allison pitched the puck from center ice with the net empty for his second goal at 19:03 of the final frame.
The Storm is at home twice next weekend, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, against the Bloomington Thunder. Friday at 7:30 is Ugly Sweater Night and Saturday at 7:05 is Boyscout Day, with the Storm donning specialty jerseys.
