BOISE, Idaho, November 30, 2008 -Jamaal Tatum came off the bench to score 28 points to lead the Idaho Stampede to a 116-111 victory over the Anaheim Arsenal Sunday night in Boise. The win improved the Stampede to 2-0 and the Arsenal dropped to 0-2 on the young season.
Coby Karl started off the game with the hot hand scoring seven of his 24 points in the first quarter helping the Stampede establish an early 28-23 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Anaheim battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Stampede 33-25. Arsenal guard TJ Cummings scored all 10 of his points in the quarter, contributing to a 18-6 run, which ultimately gave Anaheim a 56-53 lead going into the break.
The Stampede came out strong offensively in the third quarter shooting 52.9% from the floor. Idaho outscored Anaheim 34-25 to gain a 87-81 advantage and they would never give up that lead.
"I'm proud that this team continues to play the Stampede way, we play hard and we play together. That's what will win games," said Stampede Associate Head Coach Randy Livingston. "Coby (Karl) has stepped into a leadership role and Jamaal (Tatum) had a great game. The whole team showed tonight that training camp has paid off."
Jermareo Davidson finished with his second consecutive double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Lance Allred dropped in 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, just missing his second straight double-double. Ernest Scott shot 50% (3-6) from behind the three point line, adding 11 points in the win.
Anaheim benefited from six players scoring in double figures. Tierre Brown led all Arsenal scorers, finishing with 25 points and dishing out 7 assists. Mike Efevberha came off the bench to score 21 points, while James White added 19 points, in the loss.
Idaho travels to Austin to face the Toros for a 2008 NBA D-League Championship rematch on Friday night. Anaheim will head home to face Reno for a Wednesday night game.
