San Antonio's Ahearn Assigned to NBA D-League Affiliate Austin Toros

NEW YORK, Nov. 30, 2008 - The San Antonio Spurs today assigned guard Blake Ahearn to the team's NBA Development League affiliate Austin Toros. Ahearn, who was the NBA D-League's first Gatorade Call-Up of the season on Nov. 16, is the eighth NBA player to be assigned to an NBA D-League team this season and the first player in NBA D-League history to be called-up and assigned in the same season.
Since being signed by the Spurs, Ahearn has appeared in three games, averaging 2.7 points in 6.3 minutes. During his two-year NBA career, including a stint with the Miami Heat during the 2007-08 season when he averaged 5.8 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 14.8 minutes in 12 games, Ahearn has appeared in 15 NBA games, averaging 5.2 points, 1.4 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 13.1 minutes. Additionally, Ahearn appeared in five preseason games with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007-08, averaging 7.8 points and 1.2 assists in 11.8 minutes.
Prior to earning his first Gatorade Call-Up to Miami last season, Ahearn played in 41 games (15 starts) for the NBA D-League's Dakota Wizards when he earned the League's Rookie of the Year award and averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 29.5 minutes, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field, 43.9 percent from three-point range and 96.0 percent from the free throw line.
A standout at Missouri State, Ahearn averaged 13.1 points and 1.8 assists while shooting 42.3 percent from the field during his career. He finished his NCAA career as the all-time leading free throw shooter in NCAA Division I history, while finishing as Missouri State's seventh all-time leading scorer with 1,677 points.
Ahearn will join Spurs teammate Ian Mahinmi in Austin this afternoon.
