Idaho Stampede News Release
Reno, NEVADA (March 22, 2015) - The Stampede lost 113-128 to the Reno Bighorns Sunday evening in the last game against a West Division foe. Shane Gibson made two 3-pointers, passing Damon Jones (1999) for the most 3-pointers made in a single Stampede season. Gibson entered the night tied with Jones at 120 made and now has five games left in the season to increase his record.
The fast-paced Bighorns jumped on the Stampede early, building a 32-24 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Stampede star forward Jerrelle Benimon picked up three quick fouls, throwing off Idaho's rotation for the night. The Bighorns continued their hot-shooting in the second quarter, hitting five 3-pointers and extending their lead to 17 at the half.
Idaho looked threatening in the third quarter, scoring 36 points and pulling the game within striking distance. Reno answered quickly and proved to be too strong in the fourth quarter, closing the game and securing the victory.
Jared Cunningham led the Stampede with a season-high 29 points, scoring 15 of those from the charity stripe. Quan Prowell (16 points, 15 rebounds) posted his first double-double of the season while seeing an increase in playing time with Benimon in foul trouble. Brandon Fields added 16 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
David Stockton recorded his first triple-double of the season with 36 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds. The Bighorns also received 36 points from Dar Tucker. Reno played two former Stampede players, Coby Karl and Reggie Hearn, who combined for 18 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists coming off the bench.
Idaho returns home on Friday, March 27 to host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at CenturyLink Arena.
