Drive Pull Away from BayHawks in Third Quarter

Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Mar. 22 - A stellar run in the third quarter propelled the Grand Rapids Drive (20-24) over the Erie Bayhawks (20-24) on Sunday afternoon, 122-96.
The 122 points put up by the Drive was their highest total since a 140-99 win over Delaware back on February 27.
The loss was uncharacteristic lately for the Bayhawks, who are in the midst of a March where their record is a stellar 5-2.
Erie was up early, starting out the game on a 13-6 run. But the rest of the game was the Drive's, as they still managed to finish the first quarter up 29-25 and entered halftime with a seven-point lead.
They then erased the chances Erie had at a comeback by dominating the quarter, outscoring their opponents 40-19 and flirting with a 30-point lead. Erie got the deficit back down under 15 in the fourth, but never mounted a serious threat to retake the lead.
The win keeps the Drive's slim playoff hopes alive for another game. They shot 54 percent from the field and committed just eight turnovers.
Adonis Thomas' hot shooting powered Grand Rapids' offense, as he scored a team-leading 30 points and made four three-pointers. Hasheem Thabeet had 17 points and blocked four shots, and Nate Wolters scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished seven assists.
Seth Curry was again Erie's leading scorer, providing 19 points. Drew Crawford added 17 on 8-of-13 shooting.
The Drive are at home again for their next contest, which is Wednesday, March 25 against the Iowa Energy at 7 p.m. The Bayhawks play at home the same night at the same time, hosting the Maine Red Claws.
