
Vipers Fall 124-113 to the Bakersfield Jam

HIDALGO, Texas, March 22, 2015 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (24-21) fell 124-113 to the Bakersfield Jam (33-12) this afternoon at State Farm Arena.
Tony Bishop led the Vipers with a double-double 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jaron Johnson also scored a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Geron Johnson added 18 points, followed by Glen Rice, Jr. with 16 points. Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela notched 13 points. Raphiael Putney scored 10 points.
Casey Prather led Bakersfield with 30 points. Jerel McNeal followed with 27 points. Mac Koshwal tallied 18 points. Renaldo Major and Xavier Munford each scored 16 points.
Koshwal made the first two baskets to give Bakersfield a 4-0 lead. Capela made the first shot for the Vipers with a dunk to set the score at 4-2. At the 5:15 mark, Rice connected on a three-pointer to close in 17-15 on the Jam. However, Koshwal responded with a layup that sent Bakersfield on a 21-5 run to end the first quarter on top 40-20.
RGV clawed its way back into the game during the second quarter, outscoring the Jam 42-25 and closed their deficit to 65-62 at halftime.
Bakersfield started the second half with a 19-2 run to take an 84-64 lead with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter. RGV was able to close its deficit to five points on three different possessions at the top of the fourth quarter, but could not close the game.
The Vipers are back in action at home when they host to the Texas Legends Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. (CT) at State Farm Arena. Thursday, March 26, RGV travels to Austin to play the Spurs in a 7:30 p.m. (CT) contest.
